balisong with exposed blade

I found at an online store this unique balisong with a portion of the blade exopsed from the rear of the handle when closed. they say this is because you can use the knife immediately. but how do you carry it? Do I have to make a kydex sheath for it myself?

i think i've seen what you're talking about. does it have two blades? one is always concealed within the handles while the other is exposed? so that you never truly open or close the knife just switch between blades?

if this is what you're talking about, it really seems kind of pointless to me. i guess you could have two different blades for two different purposes, but all in all the one i saw was just pretty gimicky. and yea, it'd be sheath carry only

no it did not have two blades. only one blade. the website did not mention anything about sheath or how to carry it.

you would need a sheath. i have seen similar designs like that. but the blade was a bit longer. it was designed (i think) for hunting so you could use a small blade and change to a bigger one if needed.

wow, yea, that's NOT what i thought you meant. never seen one of those, before. i have seen normal side folders that were similiar, though - blade too long to fit in the handle.

honestly, it looks like someone is trying too hard to be original. it seems like you give up the convenience of a folder and the strength of a fixed blade :-(

I think it's an interesting idea... balisongs can be used as a pocket stick and I guess this would be an extension of the idea (though it would then become a deadly weapon rather than a non-lethal, which sort of ruins the point )

Not much originality here- folding bowies like that were common for a very long time. You can use the exposed bit for small work, or open it for large. It's the first I've seen with a butterfly handle, but hardly a new idea.

I always think knives like that would be neater if the design was more discreet.

The one shown above almost looks like a short Pukko or short Japanese style sheath knife.

If they'd just play that up so it looks like a short fixed blade and opens up into a long folder, it would be kind of cool, at least from a novelty standpoint.

But they all seem to just look like a folding knife with a ridiculously long blade.

No offense if you really like the style, JMO!
