Recommendation? Ball bearings running directly on carbon fiber scales.

I just ordered the 2017 Maxace Balance. Very few disassembly pictures are available online and I'm looking at the possibility of there being ceramic ball bearings running directly on the carbon fiber scale. Do I have to worry about babying the knife if this is the case? I'm not super thrilled about it running on the titanium either. How difficult would it be to swap to phosphor bronze washers? Assuming I can measure everything perfectly and get washers that fit the bill, have any of you run into any unforeseen problems with operation when switching from bearings to washers?

Are you sure it's riding on cf? It should not be. If it is, return it and get something else. It's okay if it's riding on the ti, but it's not idea if they are ceramic. Basically they wear in faster but issues can occur especially when over tightening the pivot or side to side forces.

Nah dude, nah
Be afraid, be very afraid.
I'm exaggerating but doesn't sound sound to me. :)

Looked at another way that combo would be used in some kind of record attempt human powered vehicle and then thrown away after the event. High speed low weight but not for long term use.

I have one of these and I've disassembled it, it uses steel races for the bearings as does pretty much every quality knife on bearings does as of late.

PS: I spoke to an engineer today that specialized in carbon fiber structures and he said he as never seen or heard of any use of carbon fiber as a ball bearing surface.

I would be very wary of any ballbearings riding directly on carbon fiber.

Riding on titanium is supposed to be a problem however I have never had an issue so far.

Thanks for the responses guys. I received the knife yesterday and I feel pretty safe with misanthropia saying its on steel. Quality seems pretty good at the price point, well centered, pretty even grind and lockbar lockup at 50%, sturdy as well no bladeplay and no flex in the scales. Its locked down tight so im not going to be attempting disassembly any time soon, I can see why theres not many of these disassembled yet. Finishing on the carbon fiber left a little to be desired as it was a little flaky around the hardware connections but over all im happy to say its my new grail. Now if Maxace would just make a shirogorov clone.. xD .. An interesting concept though, carbon fiber bearings on a cf track o.O.

I wish people would stop the cloned talk like this. Joking or not.

How about they make a model that has there own design language that works well like a Shiro. That would be better.
