hey guys
been wanting to try a spydie forever, but held up by the prevalence of lockbacks and liner-locks. finally got to try the compression lock on the ATR and actually disliked it more than those. i have tried the ball lock out and LOVE it. although it was just a few minutes in a knife store i think i would like it more than the axis locks i have such a predilection for.... anyone know if spyderco intends to incorporate a version of the ball lock into any of its medium to large size knives? btw, i dont want to debate any of the aformentioned locks, just curious about potential future models with an abidextrous, easy to operate one-hand open and closing lock....

If you love BBL spydercos, it may be worth considering some of the Benchmades...the Minigrip/Griptillian with the spyder hole has the axis lock (works very similarly to the bbl) and the AFCK has the spyderhole too, and the modern ones have the axis lock.

Spyderco already makes a larger BBL though, the d`allara, and I love it. Too big for me personally though. I think the best BBL is the dodo.

that's the thing, i already have a ton of benchmades (afck/710/960/921/770 as far as folders go), and now that they are loosing their touch for good users i would really like to move over to spyderco for my edc knives. i was hoping there would be more choices though....

There was also a Viele Prototype with White Micarta Handles on display at BLADE 06. While it was a prototype, I am hoping it makes it into production at least as a Sprint Run.

I agree, that thing was hot.

I've never handled the ATR, but I have a Salsa and a Paramilitary with compression locks. They do take some getting used to, and they STILL feel left-handed to me (although I seem to be the only one who thinks this) but they do grow on you. The Para has been with me since the day it arrived, and has seen some fairly hard use. It is a lot stronger than its' heft (or lack thereof) would lead you to believe. Big, grippy G-10 handle, light weight, S30V steel, legal most places 3" blade, flat ground for slicing. If it isn't a perfect work knife, it will do until one comes along.

I love the looks of that knife (My notes say it’s called the Push). The forward tilted blade, the deep carry pocket clip, the finger grooves, and the adjustable pivot pin. It all looks top notch to me, if that were made with CPM-S125V I’d be in heaven.

05dr. I suggest looking into the D'Allara Drop Point, It’s one of the best utility knives you can get at that price.

I must agree the ball lock is something else. It workes lik a charm and is really well thougt by the designers. The D'Allara is great and verry sturdy.

They should use it more often i agree. It looks to be a great reliable system even after manny yrs off use.
I saw that the spyderco P'Kal prototype has an update ball lock ( smaller ) wich also looks to be verry promesing. That also has a removeable wave function

But my D'allara isn't going annywere :) Here's a small clip i made for people not familiar with the ball lock functioning.

Some nice things to come in the future fromSpyderco i think. Keep it comming :)

:D that's a great video review shaggy. pretty funny quips thrown in there that non knife knuts wouldn't get. "that's a pretty big pocket knife... for some" :p

It's not my taste at all, but it does have some great features i would like to see in other knives.

The ball-lock, the removable wave function. Great ideas.

I think it means that it will cost about $400 dollars in about 5 years after it's been discontinued.:D

I thought he was talking about the wave FUNction due to it being an emerson design. Even though spyderco has an agreement with emerson so idk what he was talking about.
