I have been using Ballistol to great satisfaction as lube and rust protector on my Spyderco's and others.
Now I read on the traditional forum that Ballistol might have a bad affect on brass liners since it removes the copper residues in guns.
I would very much like your opinion on this before I use Ballistol again on my now cleaned brass linered Traditionals.
I hope you can help me out on this.
Thanx much in advance

I put some Ballistol on a brass handled knife, thinking it would protect it. Had to fully polish it three times before all the discoloration to the finish was removed. I then also read about how it works at removing copper fouling from barrels.

I have been through the same thing with Ballistol, and gun lube/cleaners. Most of them are formulated to help clean the bore of a gun, meaning they will help break down copper, which seems to at least discolor bronze bushings. Since most multi purpose gun treatments state that they help dissolve copper. i decided to quit using them for lube for my knives. I have been using Benchmades blue lube recently and really like it. I used Break Free CLP on a Leek for years, it did stain the washers quite a bit, but it seems that is all it did.
