Yvsa recently recommended a "looksee" at the Ballistol site, and as a result I ordered up a bunch. It seems to be very good stuff, and I was wondering if anyone has tried it on horn handles as an alternative to hooflex. It sure smells a whole lot better than hooflex.

I really like the stuff. It's non-toxic and wood and horn seem to love it.

I use it on metal mainly for lube purposes, as I've found RIG Universal Grease seems to be a better rust preventative, for me.

It's a great bore cleaner after an initial cleansing with Gum Out brake cleaner.

Cliff I use it on everything! Well not EveryThing, but anything that has wood steel, or horn on it.;)
Wood And horn love the stuff. Every horn handle I've treated with it has no fine or large cracking compared to a few that I didn't wipe down with it.:(

Well, I'm very pleased to hear that Ballistol works on horn, and also happy to have discovered the stuff. It appears to be an entire khuk maintenance kit in a bottle, and its bouquet will be subjecting me to considerably less criticism on the home front. Not that Hooflex smells foul Bruise, but I have been advised it is very "distinct."

I guess I should mention the product Eezox to the cantina.

I put some Eezox on a few items inside the house and it made a house occupant so sick that you would have had to see it to believe it.

Symptoms were chronic sinusitus, nasal skin cracked and bleeding, excessive mucous, headaches, malaise and nasal sores that would not heal.

It took over a month to determine the culprit.Once identified and removed and the house thoroughly aired out for three days all problems disappeared.

I highly recommend if you use Eezox inside your home, that you carefully monitor everyone's health---especially any children!

With that kind fo reactions to the stuff I'll make sure and stay clear of it. With that kind of effects on humans I'm surprised that it isn't restricted to outdoor use.

Another thumbs-down for Eezox. It didn't protect my khuks from rust. It was better than Tuff-Cloth but nothing compared to Car wax or Renaissance Wax.
And yes, it smells awful. Like WD-40 and cheap perfume.

This is another vote for Ballistol. In addition to its usefulness on metal, wood, and horn it is also a fine leather softener and conditioner. Check out www. ballistol.com, some time. It is amazing what all can be done with this stuff!
