This has been bugging me for a bit. I've spent hours every few months going over state, county, and municipal codes in Maryland to keep myself up to date and I find no limits on blade length. Normally this would be a good thing, but a family friend who also is a lawyer is sure that Baltimore has all sorts of restrictions in place. Normally I would defer to a lawyer's judgement on this kind of thing, but I also know that this isn't his area of expertise and he may be basing stuff on what people tend to think is the law (he used a palm to blade size check once). So if anyone knows for sure, it would be extremely helpful.

I am also interested in this. I'm working in Baltimore and should know the story on the restrictions.

The links are informative reads, but unfortunately does little to answer my question. The cases involved Montgomery County and Anne Arundel County which I know to follow the state law without doing anything different. It's only Baltimore that I'm confused about and given that it's THE city in the state, it's not unreasonable to suspect divergence from the rest of the state.

I live in Queen Anne county Md and was wondering about blade length as well. Even though all the links provided are in "lawyer-speak" I do not see anything about blad length.

Also I have a SOG tanto assisted opening blade, I do not know if this type is illegal either.

There's no state blade length and if Baltimore doesn't have local laws restricting it, I highly doubt Queen Anne's would. Do check your county and municipal codes to be sure though.

I can't answer about the SOG AO. The only time I've seen an actual definition of 'switchblade' in Maryland law is in the glossary of Baltimore city's code.
