Felt like doing some forging Wednesday last week but wanted to go with something beside normal bar stock or saw steel. Also wanted to take a stab at a knife style Tai Goo has just started doing, the E-nep. First picture shows the blade after a couple hours of hand forging with the two hammers in the photo. Nothing else was used to do any shaping other than the two hammers in that photo. The piece of rebar in the photo is the same size that the blade was forged out of. I guess I forgot to mention it was rebar. I have since finished the knife. I changed the full tang into a threw tang and used a piece of bamboo for the handle. The fittings are out of the wrought iron I got out of the old foundation wall on Thursday. The blade is 9 5/8" and overall its 15".

I like everything about it!
I also like that big hammer! Where did you get that?
This would have been a good one to video!

Wow! That really is nice. By the way, what is a threw tang?

It's a tang that's been thrown. Sorry, couldn't resist. :o :)
I believe he meant "through tang" which means it goes all the way through the handle, and the pommel screws onto the end of the tang.

Someone went digging for this one. Phillip, never said I was an English Major but thanks for the explanation.

Karl, That big straight peen was a normal 6 pound sledge. It was one of about 20 hammers I had that went through the fire 2 years ago. Before I put it on a stick I ground the straight peen.

It was either the second one top row or second row number 4 with the stub. Piece of charcoal was one of my anvil bases.
