How do bamboo handles work? Doesn't the hollow inside prevent a good grip on the tang? What type of stablizing is required? Does anyone have some first hand experience?

Not all bamboo is 1-inch in diameter. You can get decent little planks out of bamboo.

They make wood flooring out of it too. (I'd probably start by getting some of that stuff).

I've seen bamboo knife handles, but have never been inspired to use it.

I did a couple out of whole piece of bamboo last year. I stain it with leather dye and then put a couple coats of Watco on it. Its stable material but I'm sure someone who has never used it will come along advise against using it. All my knives are threw tangs and the void is filled up with epoxie at final assembly.

I got some flooring samples from a show room. It seems to be pretty nice stuff. The material I got was one of the darker colors and it was dark through the entire thickness of the plank.

I have a small fixed blade EDC with a bamboo handle, finished with several coats of Watco Danish oil. Its holding out well.

Hey, that's a nice use of bamboo.
I'm sure it's a highly serviceable material too.
