I've got an idea for a bamboo handled dagger. Yep, gotta make another dagger. I did a search and the most informative was about 3 years old. I'd like to find some about 1-1 1/4" in diameter, is there a good source around?

How about k-mart or wal mart you know all those tiki torches lota bamboo there just a thought.

Rattan might be another approach. It looks outwardly like Bamboo, but is solid fibers.

I believe Atlanta Cutlery sells both. Or did. I don't even know if they're in business anymore. My link is dead. :eek:

Garden stores that sell growing bamboo often sell dried canes. Look in the yellow pages for such dealers.

Hey Larry, that might be some good test chopping material.

Thanks alot guys. Now I've got some good places to look.

Nowicki-I'm not going to be able to make it on the 26th. I think Ed (happycat) will be there though. If you don't mind bringing some I'm sure he'd haul it north. :D

Mark....take plenty of pictures at the hammerin ;)

J., I sent for and received some samples of bamboo flooring. The stuff should make great handles, the laminated samples. They send samples that are cut and glued two different ways, cross cut and ripped. The bamboo samples are solid, really HARD, and looks really great. You may want to consider that as an option, anyhow.

I'll bring some and if we can keep from cutting it all up you will get some.....I'll keep some hidden so you get a few good pieces.
Is there still an interest in doing a cord wrap domo?

I would like to see it done Larry.

I'll bring the stuff and we will do it. If you want forge something with a hole in the tang centered 1/2" from the but and you will wrap it. It's not rocket science. Once you see it and a little practice it is like drinking beer, you can almost do it with your eyes closed.

For rattan you can also try a martial arts supply store. Skirmish sticks is the name I can remember, but they have an official name.

Here's a great bamboo/rattan supplier- He carries poles, planks, flooring, veneer, and lots of other stuff (great source for bow backings) ;
http://www.franksupply.com/ - But if all you want is a pole or two, a good nursery or the tiki torch is probably going to be the best bet.
