I've been eyeing the TI sticks, One question I've been mulling over is the lanyard arrangement between the mid-finger koppo stick and the thumb wrap pig-tail of say the Ban Bog. What advantages and disadvanatges of the two landyard configurations?

Seth,

The Ban-Bog type of lanyard is basically a Nightstick type. You insert your thumb through the loop, allow the cord and stick to hang over the back of your hand, and then you swing the stick up into your hand. Because of the relatively short length of the sticks, they are not primarily used in a "clubbing" fashion, they are better suited in this locked down grip for thrusting.

There is a slightly more complicated maneuver where the thumb is inserted in the loop and you hold the index and middle fingers out together as if forming a pistol barrel. Then using your wrist, you flip the stick over and the lanyard wraps around the "barrel" formed by your two extended fingers and you catch the stick in the palm with the lower two fingers. Then the stick will be in reverse grip for passing and pounding.

It takes longer to type out than to do it a dozen times and I type rather well...

The advantage of the Koppo Stick is it can do many things. Stupid-simple and brutally effective.

And, like the Perrin and or Perrin/Emerson LaGriffes, Push Daggers and the Comtech Stinger, very secure in the hand.

Now with all of these devices, they have a commonality. You can strike with a Palm-Heel/Tiger Claw with them in your hand and you can grab clothing and/or flesh with them in your hand.

The Koppo Stick allows for open handed strikes in that manner, and vicious open handed "slaps," but the open handed slap has a Titanium Bar across the palm.

The Koppo also shines in a hammerfist strike [bottom of the hand] and a reverse hammerfist strike [top of the hand]. And all of these strikes are with the Stick lying straight across the palm [90 degree angle] which is basically a knife in hammer or icepick.

With a subtle push of the thumbpad, a 45 degree angle grip can be used, and that has a place as well sometimes.

The Koppo really shines with Keating's Drawpoint System, it will fly with reverse grip knifework with the added benefit that you do not have to "re-learn" a whole other set of movements. Everything is basically universal in nature.

Don summed that up nicely. The koppo stick would be my personal choice out of the 2, it's a great device, and I'm sure the JSP version is excellent (in fact it's my next planned purchase).

'nuff said. :)

Don and G_in _B,

The finger loop koppo stick is my pick. Need something really sublime and techno looking. It seems the Koppo would easier to slip-on convertly.

Don, Thanks for the technique and use comments.
