Hi, here are a few photos from a day hike in Banagher forest Northern Ireland. A lucky day with no rain, although it did mist a bit now and then. Getting a fire going is like squeezing blood from a rock as this part of Ireland is perpetually waterlogged this time of year. Here are a few pics of the scenery.

This section had been cleared. I had the pleasure of trying to walk about a mile through this and the ground is essentially composed of the clear cut branches overgrown with moss and ferns so every now and then you'll slip through and be up to your thigh. Never needed a walking stick more or thought that using two would be a really good idea.

Nice stream in the bottom of the valley.

Mini waterfall and there are one to two feet deep ruts for water to run down the hill side and through the wood all over the place. Sometimes they are filled in with moss and branches so you need to watch your step in the wood.

Not sure what kind of frog these are, or why they are playing piggy back; could be mating? This, some sheep and a hawk were all the wildlife I saw for the day.

Gratuitous knife thrown into tree pic; don't worry, I used a dead tree for target practice.

Nice spot for a fire and a lunch break.

Lunch was some tea, clementines, cashews, and blue cheese with crackers

All in all a nice day in the wood; cheers.

I'm with Mtn Wildman, I'd love to see the Irish country side. Both Ireland and Scotland have been on my must visit someday list since I was like 12. Too bad someday is still far far away:( Thanks for sharing the pics. Its nice to get some 'international' pics now and again. O especially like the photo with the backpack in it, thats a beautiful sight.

Looks like a great hike.

And yep, those frogs are mating, its called amplexus (latin for embracing). Its the male on top.

It looks like the stream has tea in it already. Did you use that water or bring your own? Northern MN has some of the same water coming out of peaty bogs and pine forests. Your terrain looks a bit the same but no birch forests or snow.
I think the big frog is giving swim lessons to her cousin Bertie. He must have forgotten how to swim again.

Thanks for the pics. Interesting seeing other countries. Looks like it would be a great place to visit.

I brought my own water as you are correct the stream was as brown as the tea.

So you are over in Northern Ireland on vacation or working? I just looked to see where you were from and see you list Mpls, MN as home.

I'm on a six month assignment for work in londonderry; will be back to Minnesota in a couple of months. Makes for a extended stay working vacation

Looks like a great patch to have a bimble about.

Six months, you'll be wanting to take a few sods back with ya to throw on the fire when you get home.
