band saw questions?

ok,here goes.
i have been wanting to do some knife making,etc. on my own
for some time now.
i just don't have the right tools,but my inventory is growing slowly
but surely.

my neighbors father-in-law just bought a new band saw and offered me his old one at what i think is a good price.
well,if it's a good one i know the price is right.
(he says it is a very good saw,but just an older model)

the problem so far is i can't find any info on the model in question.
i have not seen it because it's at the father-in-laws.

i know this much so far.
brand?=
champion machinery?(believes it to be made by same as jet)?

moytor size=3/4 hp
says it is pretty heavy so will probably need a 3rd. man to help
unload at my house.

anyone here familiar with this name,quality,etc?

i have a small sears portable so i need a better one i know.
but if it's just so so better i should probably wait?
