They list a left and right handed Bandicoot. What is the difference?

I am trying to decide between a Howling Rat and a Bandicoot. What is the advantages of each over the other? My primary use would be general cutting, and field dressing deer and small game.

A secondary use would be for selfdefense. The Bandicoot looks like it would be a better stabber for self defense. What is the penetrator tip? It looks like it is "sharpened" along a short length of the spine. Can the penetrator tip be incorporated into the Howling Rat?

Thanks!!

I like the Bandicoot a lot. It's a great EDC blade. The left, right handed option I believe just denotes left or right handed sheath.
I've been carrying the "Coot" for a while not. It's a great blade. There are a lot of people that carry the Howling Rat. It's a popular blade. I just happen to find the Bandicoot a little handier. It's got a similar blade profile to the Busse Leaner Meaner Street. Good design.
The penetrator tip is does indeed consist of grinds on the spine just at the tip. It basically makes the knife pointier.
I suppose you could put it on a Howling Rat but it's not very pointy in the first place. Not sure you'd see a lot of gains.

Hope that helps.

Welcome HappyHunter!

The Bandicoot is listed as left or right handed simply because it comes with a sheath. A small leather sheath which is not ambidextrous.

From the way it sounds you will use your blade, the bandicoot is probably the logical choice. It is pointy and stabbier than the Howling Rat. If you were to add prying and chopping duties, then I'd direct you toward the howling rat.

I don't have a pic of a penetrator tip handy, but I know that there are several on the forums. I tried to describe it in words, but failed miserably...I deleted my explanation so I wouldn't confuse everyone (including myself). I will try to find a pic tonight or tomorrow.

Welcome to the Nest bro! You will love that blade, whichever you decide on!

I also love my Bandicoot. It's got a little less belly than the HR, but is much more controllable, IMO. I thinned the edge of mine out, and it holds and keeps it's edge a *long* time. Very strong steel. Also, having a knife that's not too deep is much better for day to day tasks, and cutting around tight spots. And SD, as you've noted.

I also have the HR, but for EDC, prefer the 'coot.
