If the "whatever" that you mentioned included metal, I would suggest that you take a look at the metal cutting bandsaw that Harbor Freight sells. It's around $200.00 and anything over $50.00 is shipped free. I have one and I also have a bandsaw I use for wood. A wood working bandsaw is to fast for metal, it will eat up blades faster then you can change them, at least thats the way it worked for me.

There's been a lot of talk on rec.crafts.metalworking about these $200 bandsaws. They come with a number of different brand names on them but apparently they're all made in the same factory. Everybody who has one loves it.

Yes, its the one that costs around $200.00. It can be used either horizontal or vertical.I don't think you can beat it for the money.

Thanks for the information. What is the fastest blade speed that would be suitable for metal cutting? Harbor Freight has a saw listed as a 14" wood cutting bandsaw, but it has 4 speeds from 600fpm to 3000fpm. Looks pretty good and I think it is about $325.
There is also has a ball bearing blade guide system listed at Grizzly for $40, and I am sure you could adapt it to any of the import saws. What do you think?
Thanks again,
Mike C

Take in a starving dog and make him prosperous and he will never bite you, this is the main difference between a man and a dog.
