During our stay in Banff National Park we had a few hikes planned. One such hike was called the Bow River Loop and was at lake Louise.

We had only just began the hike when we came across this sign !

Mrs Pit immediately wanted to turn back but I convinced her that as the hazard tape was torn down the sign must be old and that we would be fine !

After the hike we found this online, yeah the sign wasn't old.....my bad !

Anyway Mrs Pit still wasn't convinced but we kidnapped some passing French hikers and made them hike the trail with us, if there were any bears about then surely they would prefer some French food !

The trail was absolutely littered with bear scat, a fact that appeared to go completely unnoticed by our new French friends !!!!

For this hike I was packing my Swamprat Chopweiler ~

During the hike I came across this track that looks very much like Wolf to me !

These are what were attracting all the Bears, Buffalo berries, they tasted very bitter to me......can't see what all the fuss was about !

These little guys were everywhere(prairie dogs) and sent Snicker crazy !

Mrs Pit carried my Swamprat Ratmandu, as she had no belt she had it on her backpack strap~

I figured I should do a pic of the Chopweiler outta it's sheath !

Snicker kept a good lookout for the Sow Grizzly and cubs, luckily we didn't bump into her on this hike !

We never did manage to see a Grizz but we we did come across some Black Bears~

Forward thinking indeed. Hope they were from Quebec. Been to Banff a few times. Watch out for the critters. I know a couple that wrote their vehicle off by bouncing off an Elk at night.

Great pics, I got to visit Banff in 97, it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

Lovely snaps. That one of Snickers on her hinds in the wildflowers is great.

Seriosuly though, be careful!! Don't ignore those signs you nincompoop!
I enjoy reading your posts.

Thanks for taking the time to share.

Great pics man. I like that French food comment. Just remember...you don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to not be the slowest member of the party, The French folks weren't even noticing the scat so you and the mrs. would have probably gotten a head start on them anyway :) Black bears are cool. Never tried to pet one or anything but we have a lot of them in the Smokies...they roam the hotel parking lots at night sometimes, but usually run when people approach.
