Another hike me and Mrs Pit did while at Banff was the Plain of 6 Glaciers trails at Lake Louise. This hike starts at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and takes you up to the glaciers.
Lot's of steep hiking right from the get go !
Another landmark on this hike was the Bee hives, you can see one looming larger than life behind me !
We arrived at a small lake called Mirror lake ~
The dogs really needed this for a much needed cooling off !
There was constant wildlife on this hike from the very noisy Marmots ~
To Mountain Goats ~
Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a pic of my favourite wildlife sighting ! During a quiet, narrow heavily wooded section I had Maisy and Mrs Pit had Snicker ( on an extendable leash ). Mrs Pit began complaining that Snicker was pulling all over the place sniffing like a Bloodhound in hot persuit of a scent. I switched and took Snicker passing Maisy's leash to Mrs Pit. As we rounded a bend on the trail Snicker suddenly shot forward to the extent of her leash and I saw a Wolverine racing off the trail and down the steep forest side making a frightfull screaming noise as it went ! I'm just so glad we had the dogs on leashes as if Snicker had caught up to that beast it would have torn her apart.......this sighting was the highlight of my trip as they have always been my favourite animal.
We continued our hike heading for the Plain of six glaciers tea house~
Eventually we reached our destination and took a much needed break !
Some pics of the impressive glaciers~
Rested up we began the return section ~
This was an awesome hike, I just wish I'd been quick enough to get a pic of the elusive Wolverine !
