Which one of these knives is better bang for the buck. The knife will be used as an EDC, so the chores will be cutting boxes open and stuff like that.

Ok the 2 knives are the SOG Folding trident or Buck 110. I plan to be one or the other so any thoughts are appreciated.

The Buck is a fine knife for the $30 cost but the Trident is probably more condusive to everyday carry being that it has a convenient pocket clip on it. The Buck 110 is heavy compared to most newer knives but if you don't mind a belt sheath it is a great choice especially when you compare it to the price of the Trident which is at least approaching three times the cost of the Buck.

Most would agree that the blade steel of the Trident is a better choice being that it is AUS8A but to be honest with you, my 420HC Buck 110 has been a fine cutter and performer. I'd have to say it is the best 420HC blade I've ever used.

Another question about the trident. The little area where there is a blade near the back of the knife, what is that good for besides cutting string?

Thanks for the reply STR :)

hmm,
I have to agree the Buck is a Tank all around, great deal of EDC for a low price, and you can get it in different steels then the 420 from what i have heard.

Can not coment on the SOG, have no exp with them.

A side note question, Your tag says you live in NYC, is it still legal to carry a knife of these proportions there?(Thought from what i read in the legal froums about the size being quite small allowed, like under 3 In.)

Peace

I'm not in New York City  And yes its legal to carry knives of that size

I changed it so there isn't confusion :)

Here's a Buck 110 with some high end steel. About twice the price of a 110 with 420HC.

As noted, you will probably want to carry it in a sheath.

Oh kool, sorry for being nosy, just thinking out loud brother.

Take a look at Cabela's Buck 110 LE, nice unit, although may be too, um flashy for you for an EDC, me too.(for the stash though, i may grab one) :D

The other models are pretty stout however.

GL on your choice, i myself might go SOG to try something new to me, and grab a 110 aswell, thier cheaply priced for their usefullness, imho.

O/T, But i always thought, the Buck 110 should have been the Official Harley Davidison knife. I'ts an all around classic aswell, seems to be symetrical to the being of both.(I think that they could have made a small dedicated US plant for these and gave a pair of inscribed knives with each bike sold, perhaps some kind of connection to the bike, like colour of handle, serial No# ect.)

Anyhow, happy hunting, err EDC'n with whatever you do decide on, and sorry for the O/T everyone.
