This is one of my listings on e-bay (bladenknives).

This blade is 4 1/4". The entire knife is a 8 7/8".

This BUSH STYLE BLADE is made of 01 TOOL STEEL bar stock. The Each Von Hagen knife blade has been Rockwell Hardness Tested and has been tempered and bench tested to assure the perfect hardness -- not too hard as to chip but not too soft as not to be able to hold an edge. The FULL TAPERED TANG knife has a CONVEX GRIND blade. The BANKSIA HANDLE with BLACK VULCANIZED SPACERS has no external pins to distract from the awesome pattern.

Unique material and hard working!!

Thanks for looking,
Rick

Where do you buy banksia? I've seen pods before, but never figured out where to start cutting on them.

I keep my eye open for this kind of stuff -- things that are unusual, uncommon or just plain awesome looking. I have bought the pods in several different places: e-bay, Rockler, craft shops...

Cutting them is a different story. They are hard (almost like walnut shells) but there are fibers that are in the holes. Even though the pod material is hard enough that it doesn't need to be stablilized or hardened, I still do it. Once you start sanding, the fibers and the "shell" are of such different consistancies that it is extremely hard to work with. After cutting them to the thickness I like, I treat them. That way it is much easier to sand and work with.

Thank you all for your nice words.

nice. looks like alligator skin

Yeah, my wife couldn't decide if it looked more like a snake or alligator skin or maybe she saw more of a bee hive pattern in it.
Either way, I am happy with the way it turned out!!
