I've tried to change my email address in my profile, but I keep getting a message that my verizon.net email address has been banned. I'm not sure how to resolve this.

Yes, Verizon chooses to block all email from vBulletin forums, so it would be impossible for you to respond to the confirming email. It says in big red letters Verizon email addresses don't work....
