Ok, so I got a chance to handle a Bantam recently and after a few minutes realized that I absolutely needed one. So, I have on its way to me the medium sized version as we speak. Now, this model got me thinking. I've been rather taken with lightweight zytel handled lockbacks pretty much since I got into knives at 12 years old. I've owned Cold Steel Voyagers and Vaqueros, the Gerber EZ Out (my first knife of this type), Spyderco Delicas and Enduras, Benchmade Ascents and Pikas and many others. Now, this got me to thinking that at the present nearly all of these knives are made overseas as opposed to here in the U.S. While some of them are made in Japan many of them are trending toward Taiwan. Now, while they are still quality knives I really wish it were still possible to get a U.S.A. made zytel lockback. Now, I know that Buck put out the Omni series this year but in all honesty I handled the small Omni today and it's much more a hunting knife rather than an EDC like the Bantam series. So, what am I getting at? I'm hoping for some support of my idea to produce a rendition of the Bantam here in the U.S. for guys like me who are willing to spend the extra bucks on a beater knife made here. I use the Bantam as my basis here because I feel the ergos of that knife are top notch. Now, if we were to see a knife similar to the Bantam but made here I'd be more than happy with 420HC but I'll throw out the suggestion of using 154CM as another way to set it apart from it's Taiwan counterpart. Now, maybe I'm overestimating Buck and their abilities here but I think they could offer us a package like that without pushint the "street price" over the $40 mark. So, what do you guys think?
