I just purchased my first Bark River Knife, a Bravo 1, and am wondering about their quality control? The knife was purchased through the internet and arrived with a nick on the leading edge of the belly. Not very large, but with the convex grind would be hard to get rid of without the spot being obvious. The rest of the package was very high quality, and I was suprised to find this flaw. It wasn't the sellers fault as the knife came to me unhandled. My question is is this something I should expect from this company? I'm trying to decide to replace it or get something else. This is the most money I've ever spent on a knife, and might not get the chance very often.

Thanks

Eric

I don't know about Bark River.

Every time they make a knife I really like, they stop making it right before I buy one.

Id contact the company about it, they have free spa service for life. If you send it in youll never see that nick again.

If you just bought it, send it back to the vendor and let them replace it or give you your money back. There's no telling how that nick got there. Or, if you prefer, you can contact Bark River and explain it to them. I'm sure they'll take good care of you.

Yes, send it back to the dealer. Barkie edge issues are not an uncommon complaint, but most that I hear of tend to be poor factory sharpening such as edge being too thin, too thick or apex fails. There are, of course, many production knives of varying price points that have poor factory edges too but a nick is a different matter entirely and unacceptable.

I would contact the vendor, to see if they will pay to ship it back to them. If so, return it for a different knife. Have the vendor inspect the next knife before shipping.

I have had several BRKT knives in the past few years. Recently I recieved one with a handle imperfection. I returned it, but could have just as easily sent it back to the factory to be rehandled. Their warranty covers everything, forever.

I've had imperfect knives from Spyderco, CRKT, and others, it happens. Don't give up on BRKT because of this, you'll be missing out on some amazing knives.
