I'm about to come into the fold and purchase a Camp Tramp. I'll use it for my "one" fixed blade while hiking and other outdoor activities. However, it brings to mind a question about a possible usage for a knife and whether a Camp Tramp could handle it without significant damage.

I've been doing a good amount (for me anyway) horseback riding in the last year. I always carry a fixed blade with me for unexpected situations. Well, I generally don't need it and that is good. However, about 6 months ago I was riding in the Anza Borrego Dessert where there weren't any real trails but you rather head in the general dirction you want and use geological features (e.g. washes) to make the going easier. On this ride, we knew where we wanted to go and proceeded in that direction until we hit a barbed wire fence directly across our way. The fence was old and was obviously from before the area became a state park. Now the area is supposed to be open land. I had a good custom fixed blade with me and was reluctant to use it to try to cut the barbed wire. I might have had to try it except we were able to go parallel to the fence for about a mile and find a place where the fence had fallen down enough that we could lead the horses accross it.

What I am asking is, would a Camp Tramp cut though a barbed wire fence and would it get significantly damaged?

Welcome to the Swamp!:)

I'm sure Jennifer could get someone in the shop to take a few swings at some barbed wire with one of the test blades. Knowing what those blades do to cinder blocks, I'd put my $$ on the CT.:D
Maybe while they're at it they could also try a couple 8 & 16-penny nails.

Heck, there's probably a Dirty Rat around here with some extra time on her/his hands that would be willing to give it a try. With the warranty SRKW provides, what have you got to lose?:)

Okay, I am letting the cat out of the bag here, but I have successfully done this by using a peice of wood under the wire, then 'chopping' down on it - straight through. A bit of edge rolling after a lot of attempts, but 2 secs on the Model 'M' and bobs ya bloody uncle mates!

And thats Aussie wire too, to keep those damn roos out of the paddock!

get the CT, a good all rounder for general camp chores...I have found it to be priceless, so far...

Damn, cat out of the bag No 2!

Gundy, I see the words but I don´t know what they mean.
Hmmm, I think I try it with a lot of beer. In that condition I understand nearly every slang:D :D

Beer! Somebody say beer!?

Schleifalot, when I drink beer from your end of the world, I cant remember a thing for weeks, let alone understand slang!

mmmmhhhhhmmmmm beeeeeeerr
I was able to find good beer in every country I visited, even when behind barbed wire.
The first three things to learn in a foreign land:
- Hello, good day, dobar dan.....
- one beer please, una serveca por vavor, pivo....
- f... you, tvo vahu m..., jebo de tito...

I think you know what I mean, despite the poor spelling

;) :p

just got some pics up if you want to have a look see. Sorry for the delay, but there was over 200 high res pics on my memory stik!

Yeah Fosters is ok but the best Aussie beers are Crownies and the much underated Coopers Pale, mmm so thirsty....

And yeah Aussie barbed wire is harcore stuff my uncle ****ed his leg up bad when he came off his horse as a kid. Still shudder to see the scars.......

Bob's ya Uncle hehehehe

She'll be right (after a bushfire or car crash or something hardcore) is my favourite though
