Well this is not exactly the right forum, but since this tread is in response to another thread on this sub-forum I figured it is best placed here.

These are pages out of the 4th edition of the Standardized Textbook of Barbering. Since the Edition is from 1955 and the Association of Master Barbers and Beauticians of America probably doesn't exist anymore, I figured I am probably not going to violate copyrights, posting this. I think it gives a fair introduction to shaving with a straight razor, but keep in mind, this is from 1955. If nothing else it should be an entertaining read for those that are not familiar with it.

It is interesting the align the angle of the micro-teeth with the cutting vector. Do they specify or recommend a type of sharpening stone?

Thanks, great info! I love these old books. It wouldn't happen to have an ISBN number on it...

No, Sodak, no ISBN number, but you can easily find it. Go to www.bn.com, go to books and click in the toolbar of the page on "Used & out of print" and enter into the search mask "standardized textbook of barbering" it will run you anywhere from $8 to $30. You might not find the forth edition but the third edition or similar. I am not sure if the link works but I did what I just explained for you:

Yup, link works.

Cliff, no that is all the book has on sharpening, it is clear from the comment about canvas strops that they hadn't reached a consensus about the best hone.
