Does anyone have one? How warm is it? Is it really breathable or is that a marketing fib? I see you can get a zip in vest now. How well does that work.

I've been thinking for a couple of years now I'd like to get a nice winter jacket. I've looked at Filson, and tried many on. The fit of the filson doesn't work well for me, They're too baggy in the chest and arms, and even the "long" versions are too short.

I've been wearing a $100 nylon, and fleece coat for years, just want something a little nicer.

I'd consider a leather coat too. I have had a couple of nice ones amany years ago. I haven't found a nice leather coat in a long time. The leather coats now seem to be extraodinarily thin, stiff, "open" pores, not tailored well, etc.

I have a Barbour 'Border' jacket and a Barbour vest ("waistcoat"). When I'm up north, it's my Fall/Spring "rain" jacket. If you want it as your "winter" jacket, I guess it depends on how severe the winters are where you live. My jacket has a button-in fleece liner and it's a PITA - I would much prefer a zip-in. But the combination is very warm, so most of the time I don't put in the liner.

It's a tough jacket at a premium price - "designer" clothing for the outdoor crowd (or those who want to look the part). Sizing is also generous, which is important for us big guys. I like Barbour and if you want to spend the bucks, get one - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My wife has a Beaufort and I have a Border.

They're no too bad with keeping sweat at bay. They are very comfortable, look good and long lasting, both my wife and I have had ours for 8 years and they still keep the rain out as long as its reproofed once a year or so depending on how often you wear it. Its got lots of big pockets for small dead animals, brandy flasks and shotshells.

Unlike most waterproofs, they look better and more confortable the more you wear it, like a leather jacket.

I actually prefer the Beaufort because its a bit shorter than the Border and easier to wear. The liner thing never appealled, looks like cheap carpet, if its cold, I'll put on an extra sweater.

Unless you really like the wax smell, you may want to take a look at the Berwick Endurance. I've retired my Border and Beaufort since I purchased mine. No waxy smell, and equally waterproof.

I LOVE that smell! Intoxicating! A bit sweeter than the aroma of a Strider, but with a more refined finish and some body.
