Today I did some polishing with Scotchbrite wheels on my stripped Busses, the FBM, Fat FBM, and SY Dog Father. I liked the look, so I took these pictures.

very nice. I found that the hardest part was near the micarta because of the little scoops in the micarta that are not perfectly flat.

I showed the Boss Hog the FBMs and a highly polished HRLM I did at Blade and he suggested that I drill out the gromets with a .25" drill and remove the scales. Then I could send the knives in and have the handles re-attached. I suppose that would be the right way to do it.

Wow! Those look nice Horn Dog!!! :D Now I'm looking at those Scotchbrite wheels for my bench grinder. :)

Thanks for the inspiration!

WOW too! Very nice!!!

Did you sand it as well as scotchbrite it?

Only on the spine and around the edge of the handles (which was not easy). You can't see it from the picture, but it is very bright since I finished with a 15 micron belt. I was going to lightly highlight the peaks of the fullers with a 20 micron belt, but the scotchbrite did just fine on the flat of the blade, so I did not.

I see that in the future of my CG FBM users (green linen, snakeskin).

Extremely nice. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Great job!!! Looks like you got up to the handles very good in the closeup.

I'm thinking about doing a sage miliganza...what method did you use to get up to the scales so close?

I just let the wheel go right into the micarta a little. I was surprised that it worked as well as it did. I swear, the scotchbrite gets into places when it bends a little, that you would not expect.

Scotchbrite wheels rule! I forgot about these until you mentioned them here. When I used to do fixturing for Federated stores, touching up framework was always done with 3M wheels. Working next to laminate and radiused ceramidc
Those grooves look super sweet with your treatment! Thanks for sharing.
