Grettings, all!
If this topic has been beaten to death I apologize in advance. I would like to start out by not bashing any quality brand/manufacturer (Frost/S&W/United excluded as thet are all JUNK knives) while still discussing designs/brands that did not live up to your own requirements/expectations. In 20+ years of knife use (sometimes this side of extreme), I have found the bolo type Ontario to be the worst I've encountered. Blade was razor sharp but thin grind and chipped the blade (dime-sized) clearing very light brush. Sent it back with a polite letter and they replaced it (good customer service). Unfortunately, 2nd one as bad if not worse. Cutting small 1/4 inch green saplings and 'ching,' a larger chip than the first! Could have been a bad batch of carbon steel but never purchased another rubber handled, black blade Ontario knife since. Anyone have similiar experiences? Thanks.

Sure do. First one that comes to mind is the Camillus/Timberline Pilot Survival Knife. On closeout, same ergonomics as the SpecWar, and made of 440C. Sounded like a bargain, but the knife was a real let-down. Dull and chincy.

Back before I became such an afficianato, I purchased a CRKT Blade Lock (the first design. The one with the nice clip point.) The shape looked so nice. Hell, it even felt good. Opening was slower than I would have liked, but I was forgiving. But the steel just let me down. The Aus6 was difficult to maintane and an actual pain to sharpen. I don't think I ever saw it shaving sharp after the day it left the store. Perhaps I could revisit it now with my more sophisticated abilities, but I just wouldn't carry it that often.
