Bark River and rust?

I tried asking in the Tool Shed about this but didn't really get the answer I was looking for so I thought I'd ask some of the users of these knives. I was wondering if there are any rust issues with the A2 blades. Specifically under the handle scales. It seems to me that this would be a problem because it's the place that can't be easily cleaned but I don't own any non-coated carbon steel blades so I don't know if this is even an issue. Does moisture get in under the scales and if so how do you take care of/clean it?

I have not had any problem with rust under the scales. FWIW, the scales are epoxied onto the tang, so there is no open-to-the-outside area under the handles.

On the other hand, the unusual can happen, but not to worry - if you have any problem with your BRKT knife, just send it back to Bark River and Mike will make it like new! The only thing they do not cover is damage from a badger attacking the knife! :D

Rust is always an issue with carbon steel. As of this post, I havn't had any problems with my Northstar, but we've moved closer to the coast, so I'm taking the proper precautions and removing the knife from it's leather sheath and keeping up on the preventative maintenance.

A2 is pretty good, I've got an Effingham era blackjack trailguide in A2 and leather stacked handles that still has ZERO rust, and a BRK&T Mikro in A2 that doesn't either and I leave it in the sheath more than I should!

I have has several A2 blades with little problems. Then again I have very few problems with any carbon steel. Keep them wiped down and you are good to go. I understand that there are certain environments that are hell on carbon blades..... but for the most part it's a bunch of bunk IMHO.

Our Fathers and Grandfathers got along just fine for a looooooonnnnggg time with them.
