This is from the Big Cheese at Bark River, Mike Stewart as posted on the forums that cannot be named about the redesign of the new sheath:

"The Replacement Sheath has the plastic protector behind the Snap to prevent the blade from being scratched.

Look at the Back of your existing sheath - now imagine that the back plate of the sheath is one solid piece of leather.(It no longer has the Cut Out for the overstrap)

The over strap with the snap now comes from the center welt - just like the Deluxe sheath.

That is the difference.

Feel free to send your sheath in for the Replacement."

However, if you do:

"You send it to the Factory and return shipping is up to you."

For those who are not happy with there sheaths can send them to the address below for replacement:

BRKT
Attn: Alica
6911 County Rd. 426 M.5rd.
Escanaba, Mi 49829

However, since I live on the backside of the world (Australia) paying $30.00 for postage isn't really a great option, so I think I'll order a custom sheath from JRE and/or keep my eyes open for a second hand older deluxe sheath.

It's a shame Bark River issued such a crappy sheath with an otheriwse fantastic knife. Hopefully they will have learned their lesson.

Jmboz - Thanks. I would not have found out about this otherwise. I love my Bravo 1 spearpoint in 3V but was shocked at the poor design of the sheath.

I just received my Bravo 1 after lusting after it online for quite some time and am also very disappointed in the sheath. The knive seems great so far, but that narrow transition just makes the sheath too flimsy. Not what I was hoping for for $200. I really don't want to spend the money to get a new one. I wonder what the replacements are like? Are they actually the old ones?
