I really like my Bravo 1.5 in 3V. Good blade design, good handle design, excellent materials, and good workmanship (considering hand built).

However, for a company that builds such fine knives, how could they go so wrong on sheaths ?

No Kydex option and the supplied leather ones are poor and getting worse. The older ones have retention straps that are on the sharp side of the blade - they get cut up fast. The newer ones are minimalistic in the extreme.

And who in their right mind stitches a sheath and then inserts eyelets through the stitching - yes, they do fall apart after a while, once that stitching unravels.

Is there anyone out there making good Kydex sheaths for the Bravo line ?

And the magnetic leather sheaths for their neck knife have such weak magnets that the knife falls out when you tilt the sheath past horizontal. My dealer checked several and they were all like that.

(MKM has good magnets for their neck knives.)

I'm also disappointed in Bark River's sheaths. The older ones that you referenced ($120 at DLT) and the scout carry sheaths ($130 at DLT, if you can believe that) are not so bad, but now everything comes with a pouch sheath. What am I supposed to do with a pouch sheath on a survival knife?

Yeah, I never understood the eyelet thing either. And yes they actually go through the stitching(had to check mine now).

Mine has held up great though, and I guess you could just stich it right back up if it happens, the quality of the leather sure is very very good.

These are user knives, not trophy or display items. Providing a good sheath ought to be a point of pride for a knife maker. Bark River used to boast about their sheaths and talk about their sheath designers and manufacturers. I'm guessing cost is what's driving the new decisions. That, and kydex. If enough people keep asking for kydex, then what's the point of trying to source good leather sheaths?

And I don't buy from them. Walked a way from a sale at blade show west when a I found out the knife didn't come with a sheath.

Yeah that pisses me off. You pay that much for a piece of steel then it should be finished properly with no freaking weird grind marks all over it, and with a sheath so you can actually carry it the day it arrives if you want.

I don’t care if it’s just a basic nylon sheath with a plastic liner. At least it’s something till you can order another one.
