I have read the forum for a long time, first time posting!

I am trying to decide between Bark River North Country EDC and Kalahari Bushman in A2 for hiking/light camp chores.

Any thoughts? I am excited to get my first non stainless blade and try to get a patina!!

Thanks in advance.

I prefer the North Country for camping tasks, the Bushman seem more practical for food prep. Have you chosen an handle material yet ?

For the bushman I was long at the black ash. Not much available for the north country that I can see, but I would want something similar too. Thanks for the input. I also briefly looked at the Smith and Son brave bit it seems pricey for D2, and they don’t have the same warranty at Bark River.

The Brave seems a good choice but the handle is not my "Cup of Thea" I like more fluid handle design no finger grooves or such. If their D2 hardening process is good the edge retention will outlast A2 by a good stretch, but might be more difficult to sharpen.

If you like Black Ash you will probably also like Ironwood. If you are not going to baton the knife wooden handles are fine. But micarta will outlast every kind of wood by far in toughness, wear resistance and is completely water proof.

As for the steel choice I believe that D2 is more corrosion resistant than A2 and will take longer to develop a patina, both steels should not rust easily, but A2 will stain faster.
