Need some opinions of this knife. I currently carry a Gameskeeper and was wondering how the two compared as far as the grinds and the handle ergonomics. I use my Gameskeeper as a hunting knife but I like the versatility it gives me as a wilderness survival tool if need be. They both have similar dimensions and are the same materials but I am concerned about the durability of the Skinner as a wildernes knife. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the slow response.

I got them both. I like them both VERY much. I think the Clip point skinner has great ergo's and is a underrated knife. It's thinner then a GK, but it's nothing to worry about. Because of the thinner blade, it slices better (food prep). The other nice thing is that the Clip point has no big choil, which is better for precise woodworking (bushcraft/survival).

I like the GK sheath more, but that's about it.

Both are great knives, and will handle every normal knife job with ease!

If you need more info, let me know!

The clip point skinner is a hollow ground knife, so the geometry of the blade is very different. They are both excellent knives.

Well, I would think the biggest difference is the steel on each of them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the Games-Keeper uses A-2 & the Clip point skinner uses 12C27 Sandvick.

Thanks for the responses. I'm having trouble tracking one down locally so I can handle it. None of my retailers carry them in stock.

I know they used to be, and I don't know if it just came out or what, but Bark River's website says they are now A-2 and actually have a little thicker blade than the Gameskeeper.

How much thinner will the cutting edge be because of the grind?

Do you think that the Clip Point Skinner would stand up to splitting a deer sternum or pelvis the way my Gameskeeper has?
