Bark River Convexing

I've been thinking about picking up one of their knives (Bravo Necker 2) and am wondering what the best backing material is for reproducing the full convex edge these knives use. I've been convexing on leather and getting good results, but haven't tried a fully convexed edge. It would seem to me I'd have to use a mousepad or something even more conformable. Anyone familiar with fully convexing, particularly the Bark River flavor have any tips for what works best without changing the factory bevel/edge?

Stick with the leather. Most mousepads are too soft and will often result in a rounded edge.

Yep. I own a couple of barkies and leather seems to work the best. I started with a mousepad and never received good results. If the edge needs more work, I wrap sandpaper around the strop and go from there.

So the Bark River edge is essentially a "flat" grind that goes from spine to edge with just a little convex to it and no additional bevels at the cutting edge?

Correct, I own 7 of their knives, and all are that way. I find them to be quite easy to maintain, stropping usually does it.

That has to result in fairly acute bevel, comparable to a scandi grind. Any idea what the inclusive angel is?

I prefer a neoprene mousepad and light pressure, with not too steep an angle. Check the link in my sig.
