So I have been hearing that Bark Rivers CPM3V is having problems micro chipping. Is this just a problem with Bark Rivers CPM3v or does most all CPM3v micro chip? I'm looking for a 4 to 5 inch blade that is super tough with decent edge retention and some corrosion resistance. I was looking at the Bravo 1 3v or Fehrman Last Chance. Both in CPM3v but have never heard of Fehrman's 3v micro chipping which leads me to believe that the problem lies in Bark Rivers Heat Treat. Looking for anyone that has experience with Bark Rivers CPM3v compared to other makers 3v. Thanks

CPM 3V is very tough stuff . There should be no problem with chipping .Check out the stories.

I have several Barkies with 3V and despite genuinely hard use - no chipping.

That said I tend to prefer my A2 steel Barkies due to ease of sharpening. For me, it is much easier to touch up A2. Don't overlook A2 just because there are so called super-steels around...

Yea I was thinking it was a freak occurrence, I heard Virtuvice and a couple others mention the Micro chipping with the Bravo 1 but sometimes things like this are very rare and could be a bad batch thing so I decided to ask the audience.

I recall Virtuovice saying 3V is prone to "micro-micro chipping" (his term for only visible with a microscope) but that it continues to hold a working edge that is good enough for dressing up to 8 deer (his version of dressing, which means getting only certain choice cuts plus the head) and perhaps beyond. He was clearly impressed with its performance compared to his go-to steels, A2 and S30V.
