I have a BRK&T E.L.K. (Essential Little Knife) on it's way to me and I had a question about blade steel that some of you more knowledgeable guys might be able to help with. I've used the search function, and I didn't come up with what I've been looking for. Essentially, I'm trying to find out what type of steel is used for this knife. I've seen 3 different answers. 440C, A2, and 12C27 (which I have no idea what it is, only that's BRK&T hardens it to 58 Rc) I've seen dealers label it as any one of these 3 steels.

Does anyone have a definative answer on what type of steel is used in this knife, and can anyone explain 12C27 to me or tell me what it compares to? I checked around the net, but haven't gotten any good answers. Thanks.

Wow, thanks to both of you. That was very quick! :D I was over on knife forums the other day, but I hadn't checked back. I probably would've seen your post. Shame on me for not checking there today. :D Wierd coincidence we were both looking for the same answer within a day.

Thanks guys.
