It took a couple tries but I've finally got the sheath for my Fox River dialed in so I thought I'd share some tips for those that may be interested in building one for themselves. Before I made the sheath I searched the internet looking for pictures of kydex sheaths made for the Fox River. I only found one and the execution was poor so I didn't have much to go on. Most people said that the Fox River was a poor candidate for a kydex sheath due to the blade and handle shape. Well, I thought I'd give it a go anyway.
The key to really getting it dialed in is molding the kydex with a piece of wood or something similar cut out to match the profile of the handle that comes out as far as the blade. I tried with a few different widths and the optimal width was 3.2mm. This gives you maximum retention but still gives you just enough room for the blade to clear so it's not dulling every time you resheath it. The eyelet placement is key too (see photos).
I couldn't be happier with it. Retention is excellent and you get a very positive click with inserted. No blade rubbing, no edge wear. So if you have a Fox River, there is hope!
