Bark River Gameskeeper 2 or Fallkniven A1

I just traded for a Fallkniven A1 for my son's X-mas gift.

I have been offered the chance to trade it for a Bark River Gameskeeper 2.

I would like to hear from anyone that owns or has used both which one would be better suited for a 14 year old young man.

I have an A1 - and give it and all my Fallnivens :thumbup::thumbup: way up.

I also have several Bark River knives (Gameskeeper on the way) and also give them :thumbup::thumbup: way up.

The A1 is stainless, Bark River does some knives in stainless, but I believe the Gameskeeper is A2 carbon tool steel. (did not check specs to confirm)

I am commenting mostly on quality. As far as size and suitability for your son, it is hard to say without knowing his abilities and his intended use.

I have 11 and 14 year old daughters that have access to, and pretty much unrestricted use of my Fallkniven A2, A1, RAT RC4, BRKT Bravo 2, and camp axes and they do fine with all of them.

The A1 is a great all round camp/survival knife and will serve him well.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with a Fallkniven or BRKT as long as the size and style suits his needs.

I agree, a quality knife is a quality knife. I would have loved to have one of these knives at the age of 14, and if I did I would have made sure it was well maintained to this day. I think you're in a win-win situation, can't go wrong. Personally, know that I have had multiple knives and lots of field experience with them, I know I prefer high carbon steel over most stainless, I know the style of handle I am looking for and my preferred edges based on design. Only way to get that sort of experience is through trial and error and 14 is the perfect time to start. If he gets bit he knows its his own fault for not practicing safe cutting techniques and he will learn from it. He will learn how to sharpen it and the characteristics of his steel so by the time he needs another he will know exactly what he is looking for.
