Anyone own or try one out? It looks like a good camp knife but you just can't tell from pics. Does it work well for chopping and clearing brush?

from the reviews and posts i have read elsewhere I would say YES!

I know that you cannot beat a BRK&T for user knives at an affordable pricepoint!

awesome TOOLS!

I certainly hope so, the wife just got me one for Christmas!:D I haven't cut a single thing with it yet, but so far I can tell you that it's very well made with very clean handle slabs and grinds, with a comfortable handle shape, and a much nicer sheath than I would've expected.
It also came with the usual Bark River hair poppin' convex edge.

If it cuts half as good as it looks like it oughta, it'll be replacing my khukuri for most ocassions beatin' through the woods and such. Of course, I'll post more when I've chopped a few things with it.

Edited to say I just cut an eight foot long 2x2 into half a half dozen or so different pieces, it did awesome, only needed about 2-3 hits per segment. very fast swinger that so far seems to cut way out of proportion to its size. I would test it some more, but...I've got a shoulder injury I'm trying to recover from. I can honestly say after several hours of knifesturbation and a quick cutting test, I'd recommend one though.

I have one I've used a bunch, but all light work. It's worked really nicely for me so far. I love the size ... I have a Valiant survival medium, which I also like, but it's too big for me to hump around. The Bark River so far has performed bigger than it is, but reasonably sized.

I've seen the pics showing a full tang... is the tang skeletonized? I can't imagine having all that mass in the hand is as good as a tapered tang as used in (most) kukris and goloks.

It't not just the pure weight, it's about the feel of the knife in motion... and my personal preference is to stay away from thick full tanged choppers since they generally feel "dead" to me.

Interested to hear how the BRKT Golok feels...

Don't know what's under the handle slabs, but the balance is very good (1" in front of the generous (6") handle) and the knife feels quite "live." The weight is just under an ounce per inch. The 11.5" long blade is 3/16" thick and convex ground from back to edge.
