Why would one want to get a spinless gunny vs the regular one. Any opinions either way?? And are the sheaths that come with the gunny any good? I quess my concern without a snap over to hold the knife in, is that it would (or could) fall out? They sure look like a perfect size fixed blade and alot of good reviews on this knife.

Gunny is by far my favorite barkie. I have two one in 3v (rapless) and one in s35vn rampless full height grind. I find the ramp anoying and not necessary on Gunny. YMMV
The new sheath are a huge improvement over old ones. The retention is snug and excellent.

I have the bravo1, not the gunny. I think the ramp gives them a very distinctive look, however I found I didn't like it at all in use. I ground my ramp off, which wasn't difficult. If your not sure you can get the ramp and then remove it (or send it to bark river for removal) if you don't like it.

Thanks for the info, Do you have an opioion on a matte finish vs standard? Was wondering if the matte would absorb moisture-rains alot up here:( and the matte looks kinda cool? I spoke with BR and yes they would remove the ramp for just the cost of shipping, very cool.

Check out virtuovice on youtube. He's got dozens of barkies and especially likes the gunny. He's got them in all flavors. His use is hunting specific though and he is very specific on what he likes and doesn't like in a blade. That gunny is a great design.

As far as I know there is no difference when it comes to water absorption between the two finishes. Mate is slightly grippier but it is the contoured handle (gunny is 3rd from left and two bravos are first from the right) that locks in the hand so I prefer shiny finish.

I like the ramps on my BRKTs.

I've had two micarta handled knives where the scale started to peel away from the steel tang after a while. One of them was a Bark River. I choose G10 if it's available. The matte G10 is grippier for sure. Even the polished G10 from Bark River works well because of the shape of the handles, even when wet.

I recently bought a used Bravo 1 in 3v that I wanted the Spat Treatment for. I sent it in last week Wednesday and got it back today, 1 week turnaround. They are super accomodating, very cool company.

Well, got to say thanks for those pics Ridnovir. I ordered a green micarta (non matte), with the ramp today. Bark River, said they could change both of those features if I desire. This will be my new coyote knife this year. :)

My new Bark River 3V Gunny, rampless, full height grind, Orange G10 hande/Black Liners from KniveSshipfree (center):

(top: Bravo 1, CPM154 stainless, hard rock maple handle - bottom: 3V Bravo Necker with Orange G10 inserts)

I like the knife very much. Almost perfect fit and finish out of the box super sharp and feels really good in the hand. I most definately prefer the smaller knife without the thumb ramp, but on the larger one it makes little difference for me.

Top: Pouch Sheath (Not a bad sheath. It feels thick and well made, but with narrow belt loop)
Bottom: Black Deluxe Sharpshooter (crappy, but slightly less crappy as the failed Bravo 1 field sheath)

My only gripe is with the Sharpshooter deluxe sheath I bought for it (KSF gave me a $20.00 doscount since the stock sheath doesn't come in Left Hand). I found it made from thin leather, flimsy and doesn't have a plastic blade protector for behind the snap.

Here it is looking a bit flaccid.

Since I only paid $24.95 for it, it isn't worth the bother or postage to send it back, but I will now be avoiding Sharpshooter sheaths in the future. I should have learned my lesson from the Bravo 1 field sheath debacle.

I forgot to mention about the sheaths. The leather ones are pretty lame. I sent my first one back and they made me a kydex sheath, but it was in the middle of the summer and the sheath deformed during the trip back (they use real thin kydex). So I learned to make my own for about $100 worth of tools and material:

Does anybody know if the gunny will fit in the ksf Yukon "A" or bushcraft "A" sheaths that come with the Canadian special, aurora, north star, and fox river?
Any help is appreciated.
