I just bought a used but like new Highland with Amboynia Burl scales. This thing is beautiful! Anyone else really like a particular model of Bark River knife? I am having u812 (Jeff) make me a leather lanyard for it and I just got done tanning the sheath with BLO. I plan to wax it once it dries. This knife will probably be my deer skinner.

I already want to add another one to the collection and was wondering which ones to look at.

There are many to choose from. Not all are usually available at any given time as their production runs have a tendency to sell out.

Why did you sell the Highland? I want both!

Actually, now I am looking at one of Burt Foster's Blue Collar Hunting knives. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

For a small handy little BR, check out the Woodland (3" blade). Its my Turkey hunting knife and probably my favorite all around blade when camping.

The Fox River is next on my list.

Check DLT for some Prototypes and one of a kind stuff.

HTH,

I don't own a Highland, but I have a Foragager and two Tantos. I did give a Highland as a gift, maybe twice. The Highlands felt like great knives before I passed them on.

If I were shopping for one today, it would be hard to pass up the sale prices on the E.L.K. and the OMF. Still, I love the Mountaineer (exclusive at AG Russell in amboynia), the new Snowy River, and the Nachez Bowie.

And No way in heck would I sell one of mine to get a different model...

Best Wishes,
-Bob

sorry for hijacking , but on the DLT site they have Barkriver Boot knife prototypes.
Where do they mark them as prototypes and is it neat or defacing?

JPD, I don't have a proto but my Woodland has "First Production Run" laser etched on the opposite side of the blade. Its rather small and neatly done.

I'd bet the "Prototype" mark is much the same. I've seen pics. I'll try to dig 'em up.

My first two Barkies are on order! Fox River and O.M.F. in dessert iron wood and mosaic pins. I can't wait!! The longer I have to wait the more I second guess myself. Maybe I should have gone with Black Ash Burl or maybe a Gameskeeper or Upland Special instead of the Fox River..... only problem with BRKT is that there are too many choices and I don't have enough money to explorer them all !!!

I know what you mean. I am very happy with this Highland and it's Ambroynia burl scales. I had been looking at the E.L.K. with G-10 scales but now everything seems so plain compared to this Highland!

Just got my first--an OMF with Thuya wood scales. It's an awesome little knife. The weight belies the size. You look at it and think "oh, how cute", and then you pick it up and it feels like something you can use to cut about anything. Plus it's wicked sharp.

Two downsides: I don't like the big "OMF" and Outdoors Mag advertising. Probably just polish that off. And the knife desperately needs a different sheath--the belt sheath is fine, but I want a pocket sheath with clip. Something very slim and simple. Any ideas? I already bastardized the leather sheath that came with it by cutting the belt loop so that it works like a leather clip in my watch-pocket.

Cheers,
Daniel

It is supposed to fit in a A.G. Russell Woods Walker Sheath. They are only $10.

I have a Highland in the bone scales. Great knife for turkey hunting.

I had a Highland for about a year, and used it quite a bit. Ebay'ed it last month. I absolutly loved the A2 blade (mine was first run which had the thinner blade) but... the handle was just to dang short. I replaced it with a Fox River with ivory micarta scales the longer grip is perfect for me, but I think I liked the Highland blade a tad better...its always something.
