Bark River Highland

Been considering the Bark River Highland in American Walnut. How does it hold up in the woods for general camp and some bushcraft use? I've got BKNT Campanion for heavier use, but I'm really drawn to this Highland for general use.

I am glad you asked.:D I don't use mine all that much for bush craft but IMO the Highland is as close to the perfect knife as you will ever find. It is plenty tough but so light and easy to carry. Edge holds up well and there just is no down side to this knife. It is in my top five favorite knives of all time.

The Highland Special was my first Bark River, and is still one of my Fav. I have a few of them. Awesome knife I think. If I could only pick one out of my 31 Barkies I would pick the Highland Special.

I was pretty new to Bark River when I got my first Highland. I put it to work in the kitchen and it not only worked for the small stuff but replaced larger blades. I wondered when I was going to have to sharpen it.

Outside of chopping, it's a perfect woods knife.

My favorite Bark River knife is the Fox River, but the Highland isn't far behind. I think the Highland is one of the most under rated Barkies out there.

Highland: great blade for many difft reasons but handle will be a bit small if you have large hands. There are way too many choices in this category.

I love my Highland Special. I believe it is still one of the most-popular knives that BRKT sells.

I do wish that the handle was a 'tad' bigger to better fit my hand.

Thanks for the input guys, I am pretty sure I will order the Highland. The main concern seems to be the handle size. I have somewhat small hands, so....... I think I may take a chance.

The handle is on the smaller side so it should work out well for you.

I'm gonna do 180 here, What about the DP Knives? I have seen on a link, I can buy one of his knives for less than the Bark River. The camper looks like what I'm looking for, and with it's flat grind, I would be used to sharpening it.

I've heard of this maker by reading the forum, anyone recommend his knives?

Not sure what your budget is buddy but take a look at ML Knives, his Kepharts and Wood and Bush knives make great bushcraft blades.
They are the sharpest knives I have had from anyone and keep a great edge. There are plenty of other makers here that I would also recommend but Matts are close to some of the bushcraft Barkies in shape and blade grind !

Another cheaper option for a nice bushcrafter is the one by Blind horse knives....

DPK Make very good knives indeed. You can't go wrong with any of the Makers here. They all back their products and offer great values.

BTW I have huge hands and the Highland still works fine for me. I am a hunter, The Highland is a hunting knife IMO. One of the best.
