I received this knife today with the black canvas micarta. It was a blind purchase.

Here are my initial impressions as I opened the package:

The blade is perfect. Not too small and not too large. The handle is a little smaller than I thought it would be. It's a good fit for my "small" hand, but barely. A few co-workers feel the handle is too small for them and it sure looks that way. Overall, the knife feels solid in my hand.

The micarta is rugged, but it doesn't feel I can get a secure grip. Is this going to be a safety issue I think. It can slip. But I didn't want a wood handle and I didn't like the orange G10. The nickel guard is a nice feature.

The brown leather sheath is horrible. No way am I going to keep the knife in this thing. The leather itself is nice, but the fit of the blade in the sheath is not good at all. I would fear losing the knife in the wilderness. It just doesn't feel like a safe place for a sharp blade.

Can anyone recommend an excellent sheath for the Huntsman?

Maybe I am spoiled with the excellent kydex sheath of my Fallkniven F1.
 
Before you go and buy a new sheath, have you tried to wet fit the leather to your knife. I had a BRKT Gameskeeper and I love the sheath. I held the sheath over a teapot while it was boiling (steam opens up the poors so I have been told). Once the leather was wet, I put the plastic wrapped knife into the sheath. I then used a spoon to form the leather to the knife shape and let dry completely. It had a very nice fit and held the knife well. It's worth a try before you buy a new sheath. Damn... I was hoping Bark River would have gotten on the ball with their sheaths by now. I got real nice custom sheath for my Fox River from Sage Creek Outfitters. I didn't have to send in the knife either. Great people to deal with.
