Bark River knife and tool River Boat Bowie - a2 or 12c27???

Those are the two standard steels for BRKT. 12C27 a stainless steel ,easy to sharpen, tough fairly low wear resistance. A-2 a non-stainless steel, high wear resaistance ,reasonable ease in sharpening ,good toughness....Best to check the BRKT website.

they don't have specs up for it yet :grumpy:

I'm looking for a knife that fits these specifications:

4-5" blade
high carbon or tool steel
no choil
has gaurd
simple handle (no finger grooves)
preferably clip point
under 150$

and that one looked to be the only bark river knife that was a2, w/gaurd, and no choil. but it looks like its 12c27 instead, since the majority of websites site it as stainless. I want something I can carry in my pocket that will be able to take light batoning for when I go to barbeque's and campsites where theres large logs with no kindling, and I'm the only one with a blade on me.

LVC, the River Boat Gambler is 12c27. I have a similar model with the same blade, the Sandstorm, and it will do whatever you ask of it. Bark River's heat treat of 12c27 is exceptional, and of course.. the convex geometry makes it a cutting machine.

Bark River's A2 is even better in my opinion. My favorite model that fits your description is the Canadian Special. I whole-heartedly recommend this one, it may be the best of the whole bunch.

the A2 steel is a mbetter steel in my opinion,,can also be used to start a fire, the steel that is

Is this online knifestore a good one? Any experience?

I don't know about knife supply, but I've had many good experiences with knifecenter. I'd recommend them across the board, though I don't know what their like buying from abroad.

the canadian special's have finger grooves and no gaurd :(

right now I'm looking into a swamp rat rat tail... it's thicker then I'd like, but i've grown to like the less tall blade profiles. If only I could get it in 1/8" thickness...

LVC, don't sell the Canadian Special short... I too initially did not like it. Then I saw all the praises sung about it at the Bark River forum at KF, and I eventually got one. I'm tellin' ya... it is a FANTASTIC knife. If I had bought that Barkie first, there may not have been another. You have to use it to understand. Seriously.

Bark river Bravo-1 from knifesupply, just ordered mine 2 hours ago, $126 in green canvas micarta. Fits all of your specs exept its not a clip point.

cz75B, Knifesupply ships abroad.

The Bravo-1 fits your requirements. It is a thick blade (0.215) but the full convex grind makes it a great cutter. Here is one, at the bottom, with a North Star and a Canadian Special:

For some reason i can get my BRKT PSK in 12c27 sharper than any knife i own i also punish the blade on a regular basis and its stood up to everything so far.Its the best stainless ive used IMO unless i need something that wears better then id use s30v.
Id like to try more sandvik steel because 12c27 is intresting steel IMO.
