i just bought a Bark River Highland with Black Micarta handle should be he tommorrow cant wait

I have one of the 1st Prod ones in stag--really neat little knife and a super-nice thin convex edge. You're going to be happy. :)

I have a mini canadian with red G-10 handles that is a great little knife. I don't care for the leather sheath though... keep waiting on Normark to get back to me about a kydex/CF sheath for it.

I have a fieldsman II and a mini canadian in green micarta handles and really like the knives. They are well made, very sharp, feel good in the hand, and I'm a big convex grind fan. But the sheath quality just doesn't go along with the knife quality. Great knives but I do wish Mike would do something about those sheaths.

I agree with you 100%. The knives seem to be really nice, and very sharp (hard to beat a well done convex blade). The sheaths are just like most of the Marbles sheaths. They are low in quality, compared to the great knives that Bark River makes. I have read that they are going to be improving the sheaths but so far I see nothing new.

I have a few of the new 1095 steel Blackjack Smalls, that I believe Bark River actually makes for Blackjack. The sheaths with the Smalls are fabulous. I wish Bark River would copy the Blackjack leather sheaths.

I've been seriously considering a Bark River Fixed blade, seems like a great value, but the handles on most models seem to be less than 4", which is a little smaller than I think I'd like. How do you guys with medium to large hands find the handle size?

Not sure about the micarta, but the stag handle on my woodland special is tapered somewhat and I haven't had any problems with slippage. The A2 convex grind is a real workhorse. I have been very pleased.

ha jharley i have heard that bark river knife and tools is making knives under the blackjack name . but some blackjack knives are being made in japan also.

Hey Guys..

BRKT is making some models for Black Jack, and some are made in Seki city...

Great knives all around...

I have the Fieldsman II and it has approx. 4 3/8" handle and the Mini Canadian has approx 3 1/8" handle. This is with tape meassure in hand. I have med to large hands and the Fieldsman fills the hand rather well. The diameter of the handle feels a little small but not a problem. The Mini is just a knife that may fit anyone. It is a secure 3 finger hold and with the extended recosso or coil or whatever it is makes it fit a full grip. Hope this helps a little...

Gameskeeper has a 4.6" handle as does Forager. Fieldsman has 4.25" handle that feels pretty good for me.

A lot of good written about BRKT . Now i'm going to be a party pooper and write some bad , but first I want to say they are good knives and I like my Highland .

I ordered a Highland from A.G. that had the bluntest tip I've ever had on a knife (lucky for me my brother wanted it , so I didn't have to return it) . Then I ordered another , the second one has a much better tip but the blade isn't uniformly sharp . I'll try and explain , the first inch (from the guard) is ground thinner than the rest of the blade (causing a slight bolo effect) . It's amazingly sharp compared to the rest of the blade (which is sharp , but not hair poppin' like the first inch) . When I get my hands on some automotive sandpaper (high grit) I should be able to remedy this . I know I'm not the only one to encounter point and edge problems (if you want to call them problems , I'm picky) .

selfinflicted , the handle is small but feels great in hand (nice and secure) .

About the sheath , does anyone know how to get the oil out of the leather . I did a wet mold then wrapped it in a cloth towel and then paper . The thing is still as oily as hell .

Cgd160,
I've encountered this problem on leather sheaths before. Give it a saddle soap bath (you can get saddle soap at Walmart, as well as any place that has shoes) and it'll fix it up. Saddle soap is pretty good leather treatment all on its own, for that matter.

It is my understanding that the stainless steel models are being made in Japan and the 1095 versions are being made in the States (with Bark River making some or all of the 1095 products).
