Hey just wondering if you guys know what bark river uses to secure their scales? Are they airtight or can stuff get underneath and rust?

Thanks, Adam

They are epoxied and pinned.
The more recent production uses Corby screws, where it's possible for them to do that.

Corby screws or Loveless bolts + epoxy are great on any full exposed tang.
Both mechanical and chemical attachment to the knife.

For their hidden tangs, they often (but not always) thread the tang end and bolt the handle on the knife with a pommelnut.
This is very strong when combined with epoxy.

If You skip the fulltang models with liners, You should be on the safe side!
If You choose a model with liner, be sure to pick one made with Corby bolts.
The liners are basically the same fiber as in gaskets for engine's and plumbing.
That means they swell in contact with water.
There's no pinned epoxybond that can hold the scales in place if submerged in water for some time, like a dishbowl.
Don't ask me how I know, but it's spelled females + kitchenknives + liners.

Thanks, yah I have a highland special with green micarta scales, I was putting a mustard patina and wasn't sure if any could get under them and rust it

Nice!
I have the smaller Woodland Special in CPS-XHP powdersteel with Red Linen Micarta.
It is as tight as tight can be!
I wouldn't worry if I had that Highland.
Use the knife and be happy about it!
