Bark River Knives - Boone or otherwise (Review)

Let me tell you something that you might already know - Bark River makes a solid knife. Better off - Bark River makes YOUR knife. Bark River makes an heirloom, a tool, and a piece to be proud of. The overall aesthetic of this knife (we are speaking of the Boone w/ stag handle) is phenomenal. The stag grip is unique and feel amazing in[my] hand. The convex edge is particular, and it is difficult to sharpen without research or knowledge of a convex edge. This alone makes the knife unique. The sheath is amazing, and definitely one of the highest quality sheaths I have ever held. The steel itself shows that if steel is heat-treated properly, it becomes the steel of God. This knife in particular feels like it could slay a dragon, as the edge is still sharp enough to shave with after using it to baton enough kindling to burn a fire for 3 hours (from scratch). This knife is rarely from my hip, and I hope that one day it will rarely be from my own son's and/or grandson's. If I am without children, I want it to be buried with me - on my hip. Overall it is a great tool, and it is a work of art among knives. I have owned many, and this one is MY knife. Many of you know the feeling of something being yours, and in the same sense you know the feeling of something being YOURS. I would recommend Bark River to any fellow seeking a knife, and I would recommend it twice to a fellow seeking an heirloom knife. Bark River, I commend you.

*Update*
I did not realize pictures were the norm, and I do apologize. The following link should be to a series of poor pictures I have taken of my knife. As I mentioned in a below comment, I had an incident which resulted in a slight loss on the tip of the blade. This has been remedied. I have also added some light file-work into the spine of the blade. Enjoy.

I will agree. I have had a few BRKT's over the years (have since sold them all) but will be in the market for a gunny hunter elmax soon.

My experience with BRKT:
I had a handle issue with 2 separate knives - one burl that had some chipping and one black & white ebony that had shrunk/expanded... both times Bark River warrantied the work and got my knives repaired and cleaned up and sent back within a matter of days (maybe it was just over a week - it was long ago). That level of customer service alone makes it a great company. The knives they put out are spectacular as well.

Some other brands that have the same level of craftsmanship and customer service that I have dealt with thus far would also be Fiddleback Forge, Battle Horse Knives, and Survive! Knives.
There is just something about the higher-end knife market. Not the super high-end fully custom $1000+ jobs, but the $200-$300 range of usable blades... it's a pretty neat place with some great people.

Tober, Let's see this knife that has you so thrilled. We expect a picture or 2 of your knife or we don't believe you.

Hey, sorry lads. I am new to bladeforums and will post pictures within a day's time. It has been a few weeks since this review, and this knife has seen a lot more abuse. I still entirely stand by my review. I snapped the tip off making a fire while under the influence, a foolish mistake, but manager to restore the tip without issue. I added some file-work to the back, just as a personal addition ( not that this knife was not personal enough ). Will post pictures tomorrow.

Is that beginners luck or are you being disingenuous? The dramatic lighting of those pics is outstanding!

Yep, I've got a few (more like 30-40 over the years). Check my recent posts for a small sampling... Love BRKT.

And the really cool thing is that my favorite knife retailer, KnivesShipFree (a paid BladeForum dealer-member), just moved to Escanaba, Michigan, which is where Bark River Knife & Tool and Great Lakes Leather Works happen to be located. And I'm also in Michigan and taking a trip up north in two weeks... Might have to stop in and check things out!

Here are a few recent pix:

A lot of people don't care for the large choil on the Boone. I have the Nomad posted above (third picture from bottom) which I like as a small bird and trout type blade. Got the Blackjack 124 from DLT when it came out and I'm quite pleased with it. So, yeah, I like Bark River stuff; just can't afford to get one of everything that catches my eye and many do.
