Are there anyone experincing gaps between the tang and the handles? I have a micarta and I noticed the gap when I was cleaning my knife after gutting a goat. There blood coming out from it when I squeeze it. The gap is right the part of the micarta neerest to the ricasso or right there the ramp is. I'm assuming it's like that and not seamless because it's hard to sand down that corner.

I have an A2 steel bravo and I'm pretty sure inside that part of the tang will develop rusts.

I spoke to bark river and they told me to send it it so they can seal it with super glue or I can do it myself. Now would that work? Any advice?

It'd prevent anything else from getting under there, yeah... but, it'd also trap the blood that's already inside the handle. I'd ask for the entire handle to be taken off and the tang cleaned, and wouldn't accept anything less.

I would also request epoxy. It fills gaps better than super glue. This is why I like all my handles epoxied, so that you KNOW nothing is getting underneath and ruining it.

^^^^This.

It might not be an issue immediately, but could cause problems over time. I'd be very leery of leaving trapped material in that space under the handle.

I had that issue on the one I bought from them. Huge gap between the tang and scale. I gifted the knife to someone who didn't mind it rather then sending it in. The fact that they just want to super glue yours instead of fixing it properly makes me think I made the right choice. Sorry to hear you're having the same issue.

I had that issue with my Fox River. I could slip a business card into the gaps. I sent it back and they re-handled it. I had the scale material changed, so I know they didn't just squeeze some glue in the cracks and call it a day. I have to say they did a great job on the repair though, so all is good.

Are you the same Bravo-1.5 owner that posted in the Bark River Forum about this issue and said:

The gap is small to justify rehandling in my opinion and it would be a waste of good material.

And did Bark River not already offer to re-handle that knife for you?

Just curious?

Gee, thanks. At least they didn't offer to wrap some duct tape around the handle for you.

I am actually suprised they didn't offer to rehandle it. If there is one thing you usually have to give to Bark River, when they send out flawed knives...they will fix them.

Me, I prefer my knives to not come with flaws when brand new.

So what if he is? Guy's got a right to come over here and ask if the super glue treatment option offered would work, doesn't he?

Mike Stewart responded today and said to send it whenever i can and he'll send it back asap. Im assuming that is a yes. i also requested to have a camo canvas micarta so i would know that it was re-handled not just glued. although im not sure if they will grant my request.

the other reason why i started a topic here regarding the handles was because since i'm just a user and i don't know anything about how knives are made i wanted to know different opinions from knife makers here and people that have more advanced knowledge.

Big mike i have a question. are you an employee of bark river? are you in charge of their social media relations? because you're pretty much on every interesting topic regarding bark river

And how would you know that it isn't a different knife with the handles you requested?

IMO their warranty is great. As far as the knife difference I think you won't notice it unless you measure your blade height before u send it in. It's still hard to tell by doing that since theres some tolerances when you manufacture knives. I'm sure I won't get dissapointed in their warranty

Hey-- I am not Big Mike, but I can answer that one for you. He is not an employee. He has been a customer of ours for years -- just loves and uses their knives.

Thank you my friend.

As Derrick knows, I was KnivesShipFree first customer (and still one of their best;)).

And It's not just Bark River Knives, Derrick and Wendy have supplied me with a wide variety of steel and leather over the years.

Knives are passion, I use them, make and modify them, and love to put them to the test.

I know what works for me, based on personal experience; if makers like BR and Dozier show up a lot in my recommendations, it's because of the positive experiences I've had using knives from these makers.

There's always someone trolling off topic.

What would you like me to add?

I damage edges on knives all the time, it's part of using and testing your gear.

I guess you want me to say is that the beauty of Bark River products is that no matter what you do to them they're covered under that awesome no questions asked warranty; and yes, IMHO it's true.
