I have seen some brief write-ups on the Bark River section of a different forum, but have not seen much beyond fit and finish. So,if anyone who has used this line of knives, it would be great to see some of your impressions about how they cut, re-sharpen, and in general what you think of them.

These fixed blades are interesting because the steel used in most of the blades is A2, which appears to be heat treated using some complex process. The blades have a convex edge too.

Hey Geode,
I checked out their website--seems interesting. But wtf? Couldn't they come up with a different name?
Sounds too much like CRKT to me.

I know what you mean. Bark sounds a lot like Columbia.

The Bark River part comes from Bark River, Michigan (in the awesome Upper Peninsula!!!) so it makes pretty good sense to me.

I am expecting one in the mail any day now.The only problem is that it's a prototype that I won at KFC.Since it'll be my first (official)fixed blade, I don't know how much help I can be with a review, but I can probably answer a question or two:confused:

I won one of those too :) As a strange quirk of luck I ordered a woodland model on the same day and received it last Thursday. I am really pleased with the knife. Fit and finish is pretty good. The micarta scales are a little mismatched as one side is slightly thicker than the other but you have look pretty close to notice it. All the edges are nicely rounded and the blade grind is pretty near perfect and scary sharp. The knife looks like it has a lot of hand work - not a "cookie cutter" machine produced look. The sheath is well made and the knife fits snugly. Overall I think it was well worth the money and looks like a good heavy duty user. I have not put it through any real testing but the A2 convex blade should hold up pretty well I would think. I'm looking forward to receiving the prototype from KFC to compare it.

I have the Bark River Classic Fighter from A.G. Russell. So far I have done no cutting with it, but fit and finish are fine. The brass guard tapers down a bit thin toward the ends, but it is long enough to be effective.

I'd rate the leather sheath as average. It is single stitched and has no reinforcing rivets. It's better made than the sheaths that came with my Marble's knives, but nowhere near the quality of Randall Made sheaths.
