From everything I have read on these forums, Bark River seems to have a great reputation and strong following.
I am specifically interested in their durability/reliability..they look so pretty and I am very hard on my knives.
There is lots of literature on the durability of other brands (Fallkniven for example) but not too much on Bark River, especially when it comes to serious use.
Can you guys shed some light on this for me? Does Bark River make a serious tough-use product?
I was specifically looking at the Bravo 2.

Thanks!

p.s. I apologize in advance if this has already been covered - I cannot access the search function and read back pretty far...

barkies are one of the toughest knives out there,,,,you wont be dissapointed with the bravo 2

get one and it wont be your last,,,

great company and the owner stands behind his product,,,,;)

I've got a Gameskeeper, Magnum Fox River, Bravo-1, and PSK. Bark River makes great knives that shouldn't give you a problem with performance. Unless you're gonna use them for hacking away at concrete or abuse them in some other way I can't see them failing on you. I obviously can't fathom the rigors you're gonna put your knives through but mine have served me well, and probably will for years to come. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with Bark River...I'm looking at that Bravo-2 as well ;) . Just can't get it now...

I agree with all that has been posted here. Unfortunately I only have one barkie. It has proven to be very tough, even though I have not used it REAL hard yet. They really are the real deal when you think about knives that perform. Very sharp, very tough, and very easy to sharpen the convex edge with a little practice. You wont regret buying a barkie. If for some reason, you do manage to mess it up, their warranty is second to none, they will fix it or replace it for you, no questions asked.

Bark River makes good knives, but they practice some very unethical business, so I won't buy their products anymore.

If you dont mind buying products from an unethical company, you will like the product.

Unethical behavior? Please explain.
I won't buy Ontario's any more for that reason.
I hadn't heard anything about Barkie.

Do a search on google on Mike Stewart and you can find tons of the stuff that was mentioned in the very long thread in the Good Bad and Ugly forum. They do make great knives some of my favorites in fact but I'm not so sure I will buy more. Which is a hard urge to resist but I do feel uncomfortable supporting them. That doesn't mean though that they don't make some incredible knives!

Bark river kicks ass I have beaten the hell out of my bravo 1 and it still awsome

Bark Rivers are up to hard use - even the small ones. If for some reason you do damage it, they'll replace it.

thanks for the very informative posts - I can't believe I've been a member since Feb.2006 and only have 9 posts...I had no idea I was such a lurker.

I'm going to go with the Bravo!

The ONLY problem I've had with a Bark River (I own 9 of them) was when the impala scales on my Highland Special came loose. I was hacking away at a mesquite branch. The scales were pinless (except for a lanyard tube). The epoxy came loose and the scale was pivoting on the lanyard tube. I called Bark River and they said "send it in". Two weeks later my knife came back. They had reglued the scales, put two hollow pins in the scales, and sharpened it up to specs.

Never had a problem with any of the others. Great knives. They're like the old Lays potato chip commercials...........

AAGHH MAN!! Those are boodaful knives, anyone know a site where I can get Impala Horn Handled ones? Can't find in impala scales on any that I like on knivesshipfree.

OK.
I read the story.
Looks like another knife maker I will permanently cross off my list.

Too bad, I always thought about buying a Barkie. Not anymore.

Could anyone post a direct link to the Mike Stewart story?

Thank you.

Bark River makes the toughest and sharpest knives for the money, hand down! You get custom quality and finish at production value, it is amazing.

When you get one you like and that suits your needs they are very hard to beat.

However, as an owner of several,12 or so,their quality is not infaliable contrary to what people in 'another place' cheer about. Always deadly sharp mind.

Sheathes are less satisfying in my view, but when you get a knife to your taste, you will be very pleased.

Try www.DLTtradingCompany.com. SOmetimes they'll have some impala horn knives, though their inventory is dwindling - I think they're trying to sell their company.

If you do get a pinless impala horn, or any pinless for that matter, keep in mind there's a good chance the epoxy may eventually let go. BRKT will fix you right up, but why go through that?

In my opinion, pins (exposed or hidden) are essential to the integrity of the scales in any medium to large fixed blade.

By the way, those impala horn scales feel great in the hand ((( :D )))
