I recently purchase a Bark River Bravo 1 in 3V, and Im impressed with this knife to say the least. I can't wait to put it to good use.
I'm now looking for another Bark River knife. I hear that this happens with most who buy 1 of their knives, you end up buying more. I've accepted this fact, as I'll be buying a Aurora soon enough. I'm looking for a smaller knife of good quality and the Liten Bror is my first choice, but no one has them in stock, and it will be a long while before Mike Stewart and Company start making them. So, I'm considering the Northstar, or the Mini Northstar or the Little Carver.
The Northstar may not be my first choice here. It comes in 3V, and there is a version of the knife without the "loop" attached to the end of the handle. There is only one thing that may keep me from buying this knife. The grip design looks different enough for me to potentialy not like it. I wish I could handle these knives!
I'm almost thinking the Little Carver may be too small, other than the size I like what I see.
The Mini Nortstar looks to be about perfect except for the steel (12C27). I don't know anything about it, but I think it should perform just fine for this knife's intended role for me.
I'm looking for a knife to carry almost every day that's tough enough to take some hard use as a "backup" survival type knife if the need would come up. Mostly is would be carried a lot, used a little for common knife uses, but would be there if I didn't have my "hard use" knives with me. This knife could sit in the car a lot, as I carry quality production folders for a EDC knife. The knife in mind would have to step up to the plate if hard use applications where to be thrown at it, and that's what's keeping me from pulling the trigger with the Mini Northstar. I just don't know enough about the 12c27 steel. I've done some research, but though I'd ck here to see if anyone has put it through it paces. Maybe you guys might have other suggestions or could talk me into the regular Northstar because the grip may be better than I think? Maybe the little carver will do the job?
Thanks for any and all input.
