Who owns one and what do you think of it?

I have to admit, I'm already sold on it, but I like to read alot about knives I'm interested in. ;)

By the way...seems on Bladeforums BRK&T aren't ever talked about, though on Knifeforums they are all the rage in the outdoor forums... Why?

Probably because so many members overlap, and we don't really need two forums for each knife company.

Yeah I suppose... I just like the bladeforums community a bit better so I wish some of my favorite forums (SOSAK, all outdoors forums, and BRK&T) were over here too.

I've got two Mikros, one to put away and one for EDC, and I really like them. They are small, but the blade is stout at 0.150" thick and the handle is very comfortable. I can even grasp it around the second finger groove and get a nice hold. Mine uses blue G-10. I really like this knife.

Sharpening can be tricky on a whetstone, but if you use an old-fashioned razor strop like I do you can touch up the edge very quickly. I ordered an OnScene kydex sheath, but I've found the leather pouch sheath that comes with the knife gets the job done just fine.

SgtMike88Ret, who moderates a forum over there, worked with the owner of Bark River, Mike Stewart to design the knife (MS designed the Mini-Canadian). Hunt around on Knife Forums a bit and you'll find more than enough to read about both knives. Personally, I prefer the Mini-Canadian to the Mikro, which is just too small for me to be comfortable with. But it's a real personal choice and both knives are quite good and very handy. Both are also convex, which means you can keep em sharp pretty easily on your jeans or what not. By the way, my wife likes the Mikro alot 'cause she can keep it in her purse and, heaven forbid, if she needs it for self defense she doesn't have to open it.

Ask me again next week. I just ordered one in sambar stag from Bayou Lafourche.

I will now have the Rogue in ivory micarta, the Highland in green micarta, and the Mikro in stag. A good range of sizes; I already find the first two great slicers, and look forward to the little one as a neck knife.

Let me just tell you how much you guys stink... Now that I finally get my Mikro yesterday, you answer me today!!

Seriously though, thanks for the info, even if a little late.

I got mine in antique stag, and the finish is great!! Such a small little knife, I was kind of shocked upon opening it (in a good way). I only have good things to say about it, and it is part of my EDC now. Fits perfectly in the right front pocket.

I liked my first few Bark River knives so much that I'm now a dealer. While I think the micro is a good knive, I also prefer the size of the mini-canadian skinner as an edc. I'm looking forward to the release of Mike Stewarts new model, the North Star, next week.

I have a fairly consistent itch at the base of my left index finger. You see I have a black canvas micarta North Star with mosaic pins on order from Knife Works and I can not wait to hold it. I know now I will have to go camping when it gets here, even if it is out behind the barn.

LOL

Whats your website. I would love ordering from a forum member.

The North Star, like several of Mike's models, was also the result of input from prospective customers and knife knuts. It is designed to be a "bushcraft" or "woodcraft" knife. Prototypes were extensively tested and torture- tested by U.S. and U.K outdoorsmen.

Most of Mike's knives, including the Mini, Micro and North Star, are convexed, easily stropped on a leather strap or sand paper on a mouse pad.

My North Star will be Blaze Orange G-10. Oh boy!! The wait is killing me.

Those Northstar tests were a great read. I hope to get one in the future as well. Maybe with stag, or some stabalized wood.

I was surprised at the size too, but after handling it and carrying it in my pocket for a day I grew to like it. The blade is plenty big for 90% of my knife chores and its so small and light that I often forget its in my pocket. (Earlier tonight I forgot and carried it in my pocket while visiting someone in a psychiatric hospital!) I've got a matching Mini on the way, so I'll be able to compare both. I suspect that I will wind up alternating between the two based on what I'm wearing. These BRKT knives are a real bargain.

I'm selling at my first show this weekend -- I haven't got my website up yet. E-mail me if you're interested in anything in particular.

Two new designs should be out soon -- the North Star, which is more bushcraft/survival oriented, should be shipping next week with a variety of handle choices; also the new E.L.K. (Essential Little Knife -- and I have to not-so-modestly add that this name was my suggestion in the contest to name this knife) a smaller knife with an approx. 3" blade that will be made in a limted run of 250 will be coming out in the next two or three weeks.

Bark River only has about 9 employees, and they make their various models in relatively small batches which are usually snapped up quickly.

.

Mike has posted the list of the types of handles offered on this run of the North Stars, and there is, sadly, no stag. There will be some made in the sheephorn, though, as well as a variety of woods, mircartas, G-10, and a few specialty items. The sheep horns are nice.

Sheephorn sounds like it might do the trick. If I ever get some money together (I'm going to be in my freshman year of college and probably not working till spring semester, so money is tight) i'll send you a message.

I like the lanyard. I read on the BRK&T forum how you just did it. I have mosaic pins on my Stag Mikro, so no lanyards for me.

Is that Micarta? Has an interesting looking texture. Did you use a file to make the grooves? I prefer traditional handle materials, but it seems as though that set up is highly functional.
-Kevin

i sanded the handles (green canva micarta) and took a square needle file and cut the grooves this is my user mikro
